David Morring’s #Adventure discovery from Alabama.

Growing up in northern Alabama, David’s thorough exploration of his small town’s nooks and crannies planted the seeds of his passion for travel. He’s wandering a bit further from home now, managing to tick off 12 countries in the last 12 months. We asked David to tell us a bit more about his winning photo and the adventure in his own backyard: “Most people don’t know that northern Alabama is a Mecca for caving. There are more than 3,000 caves within a hundred-mile radius of my hometown of Cullman. Stephen’s Gap is a 143-foot pit in Jackson County, Alabama. I’d joined several of my childhood friends to go “bounce” (rappel and ascend) the pit. I rapped to the bottom with my photo gear. Around 10 a.m. the sunlight cascaded through the entrance and illuminated the pedestal at the bottom. One of the cavers, Sharon Clayton, clipped into the rope, and I began shooting as she descended into the shaft of light. It was truly an other-worldly moment where everything aligned for the perfect shot. I’m just thankful I was there to capture it.” So are we, David!

Adventure Photographer and Trover Ambassador Jeff Bartlett loved David’s stunning scene. The competition was close and three runners-up will take home $250 for travel & Eddie Bauer gear for their next adventure. Congratulations to Liana Manukyan, Darrel Comeau, and Keith Sutter for their fantastic finds.
