Karen Grubb’s winning #History entry from Cusco, Peru.

With so many wonderful photos and fabulous travel stories highlighting history, Trover Ambassador Laurence Norah had a tough time choosing the winner. In the end, Laurence loved the colorful capture of this lively moment in a historic setting, along with a detailed description providing interesting context to this travel tidbit. Noting a great photo can transport the viewer to the scene, Laurence imagined himself witnessing this moment thanks to Karen’s photo. We asked Karen to share more about her winning discovery and herself with the Trover community.

I’m from San Luis Obispo, California. My passions include travel and pretty much anything outdoors. I’m happiest up in the mountains with a little dirt under my nails and grease in my hair.

I don’t normally gravitate towards larger cities but I fell in love with Cusco! The architecture in the main square is beautiful. It’s a great place to get a sense of Cusco’s history through the juxtaposition of Inca and Spanish colonial architecture. I was lucky enough to stumble upon this religious procession during the Fiesta de la Virgen Natividad on my last day in the city.

Thank you, Karen, for sharing your spectacular photos and highlighting this historic (and beautiful!) destination. Check out more of Karens’s finds and follow her on Trover to see what she discovers on a future adventure to the Scottish Highlands, inspired by her daughter, Skye, and an appreciation of the Outlander series set in the majestic Scottish landscape.

Thank you, Laurence, for making the tough decision and to all of the Trover community for sharing your extraordinary #History travel stories! See the full list to discover the history behind the world’s hidden gems!

Woman standing at grand canyonMeet Sofia Viertola, a.k.a Project Forever! This Finnish adventurer and nature lover works in a hospital while filling her vacations and long weekends with travel. In 2018, Sofia spent 4 months on a globe-trotting adventure checking 11 countries off her list. A self-described travelholic, Sofia loves exploring new places and getting to know different cultures. Sofia notes that “food is a great way to start to get to know a foreign country. . . cuisine is a big part of a region’s culture.” If she’s not on the road, Sofia gets her travel fix with books, travel shows & documentaries about nature and cuisine.  When on the go, she travels light with small cameras that fit inside my purse and are easy to carry around, currently opting for Olympus mirrorless cameras. Her secret travel tip is to “always smile and be respectful towards the locals, and you might benefit, too!” We asked Project Forever to tell us about her favorite experiences she’s shared on Trover. Take it away, Sofia. . .
