10 Spectacular Sights in Siem Reap

Siem Reap is a popular modern resort town in northern Cambodia that acts as the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor.

Scattered around Siem Reap in the Angkor site are more than a thousand ruins of ancient temples from the Khmer Empire, which flourished in the region from the 9th to the 15th centuries. Today, the restored ruins of sites like Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom delight thousands of tourists each year and provide countless spectacular sights to Siem Reap visitors. Some of the world’s most incredible places of worship and spiritual study are also some of the most difficult to access. Most of the time, this was intentional in the design of the complex.

Whether perched on a cliff, hidden in high mountains, or built into the side of rock formations, these monasteries, temples and abbeys were designed to isolate and test the dedication of the monks and nuns who inhabit them, bringing them closer to God in a place of peace.
