September 2019 Trover Travel Scholarship

We are inspired every day by the beautiful discoveries you share with us. To honor the vibrancy and value that each of you brings to Trover, we created the $500 Trover Travel Scholarship. Each month, we award it to one traveler who has particularly inspired us with their photos and stories.

This month, we’re thrilled to award the Trover Travel Scholarship to Kirk & Lynn!

Meet Kirk & Lynn! These Bay Area adventurers work hard so they can spend their free time traveling. They love long weekends exploring their California stomping grounds and take two trips a year to explore far and wide. This team of Trovers capture travel moments on an iPhone 10 and their matching Canon EOS Rebel T7i’s. They recommend researching “the trip prior to traveling and plan your own personal adventure.” Beyond travel, Lynn is an antiquing aficionado and Kirk is the muscle for all those unique finds. Kirk’s specialty is landscape photography with a wide-angle lens, while Lynn likes to use zoom lenses for closeups and animal photos. We asked Kirk & Lynn to tell us about their favorite experiences they’ve shared on Trover. Take it away, you two . . . Continue reading

This month, we’re thrilled to award the Trover Travel Scholarship to Project Forever!

Woman standing at grand canyonMeet Sofia Viertola, a.k.a Project Forever! This Finnish adventurer and nature lover works in a hospital while filling her vacations and long weekends with travel. In 2018, Sofia spent 4 months on a globe-trotting adventure checking 11 countries off her list. A self-described travelholic, Sofia loves exploring new places and getting to know different cultures. Sofia notes that “food is a great way to start to get to know a foreign country. . . cuisine is a big part of a region’s culture.” If she’s not on the road, Sofia gets her travel fix with books, travel shows & documentaries about nature and cuisine.  When on the go, she travels light with small cameras that fit inside my purse and are easy to carry around, currently opting for Olympus mirrorless cameras. Her secret travel tip is to “always smile and be respectful towards the locals, and you might benefit, too!” We asked Project Forever to tell us about her favorite experiences she’s shared on Trover. Take it away, Sofia. . .

This month, we’re thrilled to award the Trover Travel Scholarship to Michael Schuier!

Meet Michael Schuier! This avid traveler recently made the leap from gerontology student to full-time photographer. You can see what this pro is shooting with down below! A longtime member of the Trover community, he started out sharing finds close to home in Georgia. The feedback from fellow Trovers pushed his photography and travels further. His adventures often focus on the United States where he can travel longer and more frugally, noting there’s a lot to see! In addition to photos, Michael collects sand as a keepsake of his adventures. His mantle proudly displays a colorful array of sandy souvenirs from Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park in Utah, North Carolina’s Topsail Island, the black sand beaches of Iceland, and many more. As he pursues photography fulltime, Michael hopes to meet more members of the Trover community.  We asked Michael to tell us about his favorite experiences he’s shared on Trover.
