Siem Reap is a popular modern resort town in northern Cambodia that acts as the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor.

Scattered around Siem Reap in the Angkor site are more than a thousand ruins of ancient temples from the Khmer Empire, which flourished in the region from the 9th to the 15th centuries.
