November 2018 Trover Travel Scholarship

We are inspired every day by the beautiful discoveries you share with us. To honor the vibrancy and value that each of you brings to Trover, we created the $500 Trover Travel Scholarship. Each month, we award it to one traveler who has particularly inspired us with their photos and stories.

This month, we’re thrilled to award the Trover Travel Scholarship to Mark & Kylee!

Meet Mark & Kylee, the adventurous duo from Canada who recently took the leap to a life on the go. “We sold our house and nearly all of our worldly possessions back in Canada, and have been on the road full-time since.” Mark & Kylee share their travel stories from under-the-radar destinations on their blog These Foreign Roads. As former chefs turned travel bloggers, Mark & Kylee make food a top priority as they explore less-visited locations. We asked them to give us a taste of their favorite travel finds. Take it away, Mark & Kylee . . .

Văleni, Romania
Before arriving in Romania, we knew quite little aside from the stereotypes of mountains and castles. Heading to the far north of the country, in Maramures, we were greeted with so many beautiful colours like the changing leaves and these fantastic beehives. This was a common sight in the little villages dotting the countryside and it was just such a wonderful and unexpected treat.

Medellin, Colombia
Medellin quickly became one of the best cities we’d ever visited. There is so much great food, culture, scenery and pride. This art piece is one of our top picks not only because of it’s beauty, but what it represents. The people of Medellin struggled for so long against so many hardships, and this once-slum is growing into a beautiful urban park. The fact that it’s constructed of the garbage that once literally built the community is an added bonus.

Oaxaca, Mexico
As Kylee and I are both former chefs, food—especially local cuisine—plays a huge roll in our travelling. During the five weeks we spent in Oaxaca last year, we fell completely in love with street tacos. These specific ones are from a cart just up the road from the apartment we rented and were our absolute favourite of all.
