Who is behind Adventures of a Scotsman? David Ritchie, a Scottish explorer picking the best finds in his own backyard to share with fellow travelers like you! We asked David to tell us a few details about himself and pass along his tips for discovering the land of the Highlands, the Hebrides & haggis!

A self-described “Scottish lad, born in Inverness and grown up in Carr-Bridge, a small village in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park,” David and his fiance, Tori, have made a home in Carr-Bridge Village. “What better place to stay and use as a hub for exploring the wonders of the National Park and beyond.” David’s “keen interest in all things adventure and discovery . . . goes hand in hand” with his favorite hobbies which range from hill walking and mountain biking to adventure filmmaking and metal detecting. David notes when he finds that “hoard of gold Roman coins, I will quit my job and become a full-time adventurer.”

On a working trip to New Zealand followed by several months of exploring the North and South Islands, David was inspired to explore his own country of Scotland. “I haven’t actually visited a lot of places in Scotland that I have always wanted to. When we arrived back home in December, I set about putting that straight and making the most of our beautiful country. Whenever time allows, Tori and I become tourists in our own country and, more often than not, my best mate Euan tags along.” David’s next stop is the Isle of Skye, “one of the most amazing places to visit in Scotland, if not the world. An adventurer’s dream, with spectacular mountains to climb, caves to explore, rivers to swim and scenery to die for. . .” Sounds epic, David!

David discovered Trover a few months back and “was amazed at how great an idea this app really was.” He uses Trover to find new adventures and places to explore. “Being able to go on to my phone and after a few clicks and scrolls, I am able to find pictures and discoveries of the many other Trover members. The mileage feature of this app is my favourite thing to use, I love scrolling through pictures and when I see something I like, I can see how far away it is, or if I only feel like travelling, say, 50 miles from home then I can also use it in this way as well! Being able to share my pictures with fellow Trover users, and help inspire like-minded people to get out there and explore their favourite places really is a pleasure. Whatever I do, or wherever I go, I will be sure to let my fellow Trovers know!”

Adventures of a Scotsman at Uath Lochan, Glen Feshie. “An easy going circuit for walkers and bikers and around 2.5km in length. The summit offers a spectacular view of the Uath Lochans and the Cairngorm Mountain range as it’s backdrop. Highly recommended on a clear crisp winters day when the hills are white!”

Check out David’s top 10 list of must-dos while exploring Scotland, and be sure to follow Adventures of a Scotsman on Trover! You can also catch him on Instagram and read more about his adventures through Scotland and beyond on his blog. Thank you for sharing your vibrant discoveries and delightful travel insight with the Trover community. Never stop exploring, David! We hope you find that cache of gold coins soon! Until then, enjoy the $500 for travel. We can’t wait to see your next adventure!
